Sorghastrum nutans

Moisture: Dry to medium soil 

Bloom Time in RI: August to October

Ecological Significance/Pollinators: overwintering insects, food for songbirds, and is a soil stabilizer. It is also the host plant for several grasshopper species. 

Spreading Habit: Height 3-6', Spread 1-2'; spreads via rhizomes, sometimes aggressively

Seed Provence: Original ecotype collected in Clermont, NY. (Grown out: Hilltop Hanover)

Habitat: Grasslands, meadows and fields, woodlands, shores of rivers or lakes (Wetland Code UPL)
