What size plants do we carry and why?
"Picking a plant size" Guide
Plant Community RI started their journey off by growing out plugs primarily for restoration projects and landscapers. This year we've expanded our size options to fit more growers! Below is a list of the plant sizes we carry and why you might choose a certain size for your growing area.

Plugs
See the photo over there to your left? That is a photo of approximately 25 plants! A full flat of plugs is 50 plants and a half flat is 25.

Pros:
-
Best Bargain for your buck
-
Great for large scale plantings or a garden enthusiast
-
This option could open up the opportunity to connect with other growers in your area to start a buying list to save money and build community

Things to think about:
-
If you can't get them in the ground right away, they will need to be watered more frequently than the larger size plants.
4" Pots
This is our medium sized plant. Lower price point than our largest and more established plant than the plugs.

Pros:
-
Middle price bracket
-
Less watering needs if you can't get the plant in the ground right away cause of the pot size
-
Will likely combat weed pressure because of it's size
-
Perfect size to plop in a pot for a porch or window box

5.5" Pots
This is the largest pot we currently carry! We typically plant our woody shrubs in this size but occasionally we'll offer some other species if they need a bit more room to grow or have a deep root system.

Pros:
-
Similar to the 4" pot, they will need less watering due to the pot size
-
Weed pressure after planting isn't as much of a problem for these big plants!
-
Depending on your species, you will get fruit & flowers sooner.
-
Plants will be closer to their final size and easier to visualize in your garden space
