Blooming from August to October, Helenium autumnale prefers full sun and wet to moist soils. Growing 3–5' tall with a 1.5–2.5' below-ground spread, it provides habitat for long-tongued bees, Long-horned Bees, and Bombus species, while remaining highly unpalatable to White-tailed Deer and Eastern Cottontails. It is clump-forming and expands slowly below-ground via crowns.
