Blooming in August and September, Symphotrichum cordifolium prefers sun to part shade and average to dry soil. Growing to be 1-3' tall with a spread of 1.5-2', it acts as a host plant for the Peal Crescent butterfly while also attracting bees and butterflies. It spreads vigorously by self-seeding and rhizomes.
